End of September!

Class 2016-2017

It is crazy that we are already ending September!  I have such an amazing group of kiddos!!!  The month has flown by and I am looking forward to the following months with all the exciting times that come with it!

For reading, we are looking at strategies readers use to understand stories.  Next, we will be checking in on strategies readers use to figure out an unknown word.  In math, we are continuing to work on multiplication and division.  I sent home a few math fact sheets so the kiddos can practice at home.  In writing, we are working on a rough draft of a personal narrative and will be making our way through the writing process towards publishing.  Our plants are growing in science and we are making observations and predictions about them.  Mrs. Koenigs was in to discuss issues around bullying and we will review what we have learned from her.  Our first V.I.P. will be Joey next week and we look forward to learning more about him! 🙂

Tomorrow is our first spirit day and the kids are encouraged to wear mismatched clothes!  We will also have Flashlight Friday with our Little Buddies.  The kids can bring a small flashlight to use while they read with their Little Buddy.  If you have any questions, let me know!

Important Dates

Friday Sept. 30th: Cheetah Cheers Assembly, Mismatch Clothes Day, Flashlight Friday

Wednesday Oct. 5th: Picture Day

Thursday Oct. 13th: Cheetah Walk (T-shirt will be provided)

Friday, Oct. 14th: No School

Quick note on class representatives!

We will be voting on our ASB Class Representatives on Wednesday (there are 2 per class).  If your student would like to run, they will need to write a short speech telling why they would be a good representative.  The speech doesn’t need to be anything long or fancy.  They just need to have it written down so they can present to the class.  The class will vote and the winners will bring home an orange paper on Wednesday for their parents to sign.  If you have any questions, let me know! 🙂

One full week done!

Hello Room 3 families!  We made it through the first full week of school!  We have been busy, busy, busy with so many different things.

The students are doing great with learning the routines and procedures for this year.  Our counselor, Mrs. Koenigs, came in to talk about some conflict resolution strategies and next week, will lead the discussion around bullying.  We have started our reading curriculum where we are learning strategies to build good reading lives and will continue to discover what will make us successful readers.  The kiddos are diving into their Writers Notebooks, writing personal narratives and next, they will be learning strategies to really find and stretch out those small moments.  In math, we have started our unit on multiplication and will shortly add division into the mix.  In science, we will be starting our Plant unit next week!

Thank you to all who were able to come to Curriculum Night!  I have placed the Powerpoint from that evening under the Class Info tab on this website if you need to refer back to it or were unable to make it.

Also, thank you to those who have filled out volunteer sheets!  I will be looking at those and working out a schedule to start the beginning of October!

The students now have two folders that should come back and forth between home and school every day; the teal Communication Folder and a blue Reading folder.  This is to hopefully students access to their Reading Log a little easier at home and school.  For the Reading Log, do not stress about exact start and stop time but try to have the minutes read recorded as well as how many pages were read.  The kiddos also brought home a Homework page today.  This is due next Friday.  Remember, I check the communication folder every day so please be sure to put anything that needs to be seen by me in that folder.  Also, if you take out papers that stay at home each day, that will help to keep the folder a little less cluttered!  Thank you so much for your help in this!!!

I also sent home some Scholastic Book flyers.  If you are interested in ordering any books, I encourage you to check out the books online!  There are so many more options and ways to search for books!  I will place the order on the evening of Wednesday, September  28th.  Please have any orders in by that time.

It has been a great start to this school year and I can’t wait to see what it brings! 🙂  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know!!!
